Your family is already here

Surf at 7am. Deep work by 9. Dinner with people who know your name and care about your project. Survana isn't a hotel with a community manager — it's a home where real relationships happen.

What makes this different

Survana isn't a hostel. It isn't a hotel. It's a home where people who build things become family.

Builders, not tourists

Everyone at Survana is working on something. A startup, a book, a coaching practice, a blockchain protocol. The house selects for ambition and follow-through.

No cliques, no drama

3 bedrooms, max 6 people at a time. Small enough that everyone knows everyone. Big enough that you can find a quiet corner for deep work.

Show up as you are

Past residents include a Shark Tank founder, an MIT blockchain researcher, a Forbes Council member, and someone who left corporate to become a breathwork facilitator. There's no mold.

The house keeps going

Alumni stay connected through the house Telegram group long after they leave. Introductions, referrals, and reunion trips happen year-round.

A typical week

Everything is optional. Nothing is mandatory. But something is always happening.

A 35-minute drive inland

Europe’s only inland salt flats. And the best chicken you’ll ever eat.

Salinas de Rio Maior & Solar do Sal · Marinhas do Sal · ~50 min from the house

Sea salt mined 30 km from the ocean, a medieval village of wooden huts, warm salt-water pools to float in — and the wood-fired frango locals drive across the district for. Loop in the walled town of Óbidos and its hilltop castle and you have a full day out, under an hour from your room.

  • Sea salt, 30 km from the sea

A natural brine spring many times saltier than the ocean feeds the pans — Europe’s only working inland salt flats.

  • Worked since 1177

Eight centuries of hand-harvested salt, once run by the Knights Templar.

  • A village of wooden palheiros

Salt-workers’ timber huts and storehouses, standing barely changed for generations.

  • Float in a warm salt spa

Open-air salt-water bathing pools beside the pans, open through the summer.

  • Best grilled chicken in the world

Wood-fired piri-piri frango at Solar do Sal — locals queue half an hour for it.

  • Medieval Óbidos on the same loop

A walled hilltop town and castle to wander — the perfect pairing, ~55 min away.

  • Under an hour from the house

An easy inland day-trip out of the Eco Village — about 50 minutes by car.

Óbidos Medieval Market

16–26 July 2026

Each July the walled town travels back to the Middle Ages: armoured knights and jousting tournaments, jesters, minstrels and falconers, fire-eaters by torchlight, period taverns serving spit-roast meats and mead, and dozens of artisan stalls inside the castle walls — a 55-minute drive from the house.
